About The Role

  

What you’ll be doing

To lead the Financial Control team to deliver accurate, timely and well-controlled financial information, which is used as the foundation of all of the Group’s financial reporting, and to maintain efficient and effective financial operations and services.

Key Responsibilities

The role holder will:

Reporting and Close Process

  • Maintain the integrity of the Group’s financial information at all times, through managing the team’s reconciliation and financial processing activities and ensuring accounting standards are complied with, on a timely and accurate basis
  • Lead and oversee accounting processes supporting critical technical areas, which include expected credit losses, EIR accounting, hedge accounting and share based payments

    Balance Sheet Integrity and Control Environment

  • Own the balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation framework, ensuring consistent high-standards are met across the team.
  • Maintaining a strong risk and control framework across the function, ensuring risks are identified where new processes are adopted
  • Ensure robust management of identified internal or external audit issues

    Team Leadership

  • Lead, develop and manage a team of between twelve and fifteen people (qualified, part-qualified and non-qualified) to deliver excellent results across all aspects of its operation
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and disciplined execution, to drive accuracy and efficiency of financial control processes

    System and Process Optimisation:

  • Lead and implement change initiatives (eg automation/system changes) to continually improve the departments processes and deliver its services in the most effective way
 
Finance Operations
  • Oversee the Group’s Accounts Payable and employee expenses activities
  • Lead the Group’s Treasury Back Office function, ensuring that monitoring and reconciliation processes are undertaken accurately and in line with regulation, and maintaining full segregation of duties from the Group’s Treasury front office and middle office
  • Oversee key tax processes undertaken in the team, to ensure HMRC obligations are met
 

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for an inclusive leader with both technical expertise and the ability to bring out the best in others, you will have experience of leading people through significant change projects both as a people leader and as a subject matter expert. 

Essential skills & experience

  • ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualified 
  • Financial services banking experience is highly desirable
  • Previously held a leadership role, overseeing individuals at various levels, supporting and motivating the team through challenging activities
  • Significant experience in respect of financial accounting, general ledger systems, reconciliations, and month end processing.
  • Prompt issue analysis and proactive management of resolution
  • Leading and managing large and small change initiatives
  • Proactive in bringing new ideas and improvements to the business area
  • Communicate effectively and robustly challenge stakeholders at all levels
