 What you`ll be doing

 

The Portfolio Director will oversee a portfolio of Asset Based Lending (ABL) clients, acting as the primary relationship owner and trusted adviser. The role focuses on delivering outstanding customer outcomes, maintaining credit quality, identifying opportunities for growth, and ensuring facilities remain fit for purpose throughout the client lifecycle.

Partnering with Credit, Portfolio Management, Operations and Business Development teams, the Portfolio Director will drive portfolio growth while maintaining robust risk controls and regulatory compliance.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of Asset Based Lending (ABL) clients, acting as the primary relationship owner.
  • Build strong relationships with business owners, finance leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of clients' businesses, funding needs and growth plans.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews to identify opportunities, monitor performance and mitigate risks.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, driving high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
  • Own portfolio performance, profitability and overall credit quality.
  • Monitor financial performance, covenant compliance and facility utilisation.
  • Complete credit reviews, renewals and risk assessments within agreed timescales.
  • Prepare credit recommendations and assess amendments, restructures and additional funding requests.
  • Identify and support growth opportunities through funding solutions and working capital strategies.
  • Collaborate with Credit Risk, Portfolio Management, Operations, Legal, Compliance and Business Development teams.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, governance standards and fair customer outcomes.

     

     What we`re looking for

     

  • Significant experience within Asset Based Lending (ABL), Invoice Finance, or Commercial Banking.
  • Strong knowledge of ABL products and structures, including Factoring, Invoice Discounting, Stock Finance, and Cash Flow Lending.
  • Proven experience managing portfolios of SME and corporate clients.
  • Strong credit analysis skills with the ability to assess financial performance and identify emerging risks.
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to balance customer needs, portfolio growth, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging senior decision-makers.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to develop practical funding solutions.
  • Collaborative, organised, and customer-focused, with a high level of professionalism and integrity.
